Message from the Chapter President:
Welcome to one HOT week here in El Paso. I think this has been the hottest we’ve been in a while. Oh well it is the desert. Anyway, we have some items coming up that need to addressed. First is the scholarship. I want to thank the scholarship committee; Greg Brown, Sam Morgan, Chuy Zamora, Pablo Sanchez and Steve Franzoni. They reviewed over 20 application (the most we’ve ever had) and had to cut it down to just three. At the August meeting we’ll present the scholarships to the recipients and as it stands, BG Kurt Crytzer will present the awards. BG Crytzer is the Commander of JTF-N here in El Paso and is one of us.
Next in the door is the golf tournament. Flyers are attached to the e-mail and we’ll have some FLYERS at the meeting this Saturday. WE WILL HOLD A GOLF MEETING THIS SATURDAY AT 1100. We have less than two month before the tournament and to my knowledge we old have one person paid (me) and one hole sponsor. WE NEED TO GET HOT ON THIS. I know some don’t like to ask folks for anything and that’s fine but support the chapter. A $100 hole sponsor for a family member, IMO someone, a business or any other reason will help. If $100 is too much purchase beer or a bottle/s of alcohol for door prizes. If you do venture out ask for prizes. Anything will help. Prizes that always go over well are tools, alcohol, day spa passes, gift certificates golf items etc.
As always, thank you for your support and continued friendship.

President Pete’s Oval Office:
Welcome to March 2015. It seems the older you get the faster time fly’s, something isn’t right with that. With that said, May and the Expo is less than 2 months away. Then the VFW golf tournament on May 16, then our golf tournament in September. It may seem like a long way off but who can remember out Christmas party for 2014? I remember it like it was yesterday so May and September isn’t that far away. Let’s get going on teams and sponsors.
I want to address our finances for a minute. Like Bill says every month, “We are healthy” but with the planning of a team house and maintaining it, that “healthy” can fade away. One thing that we as a chapter have to our benefit is the partnership with the VFW Post 812. We need to keep that relationship alive and well. I’ve seen a few more bodies from Chapter 9 patronize the place for events like fun food Friday, or dances, fund raisers etc. but not nearly enough. We have a handful of members who visit the VFW regularly but hardly anyone at the meeting (for as big as our meeting are) or other functions. Our voice will be the deciding factor on building a team house on their property so we need more representation at the meeting and other function. The few cannot support the whole. Show your support.
Thank you all for your camaraderie and support. See you Saturday.

President's Message:
Two individuals have been chosen for the 8th annual Jerry P. Rainy scholarship. Thanks to Sam Morgan and his committee for the hard work needed to make sure these are given to individuals who will perpetuate Jerry’s memory. We will have the scholarship awards most likely after our August 16th general meeting but we’ll discus and lock down the date/time at our July meeting. July will be the “get after it” date for our golf tournament. We’ve pretty much perfected the event so we are getting more and more laid back in our sponsorship recruiting but let’s not get too complacent. Sponsorships are what make the event successful for Chapter 9. The team recruitment, set-up, and operations of the event have never been a problem but we break even with that part of the event. The sponsorships make us the funds to do the great things that we do. I challenge every member to get at least one $100 hole sponsor. We’ve gone 21st century with an online registration for the players, teams and sponsors so push that with the tech-savvy folks.
Last is the passing of Raul Ramos. A few were able to attend the services and even though I didn’t know him personally, his eulogy showed what kind of man he was. He will be missed. God bless him and his family.
His services brought up another issue that we’ve talked about but have not actioned YET. That is a “Class-B” uniform for the chapter. I sent out an email to some of our member as a study group on what would work for a Class-B uniform and what I got back is a short sleeve white dress shirt with the SFA logo on it and our chapter name above. I’ve asked a local company to make me a demo shirt that should be ready for the next meeting. A vote will be made and orders taken. I understand some cannot wear short sleeves so a long sleeve shirt will be available.
See you next Saturday
