Chaplain's Corner - November 2011

“Jesus is the reason for the season of Christmas." God came to us in the form of his Son to be the Savior of the World for all time for those who accept him as God's Son, come to set us free from the control that sin has over us.” When Adam and Eve disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden by eating the forbidden fruit of the tree of truth and knowledge - they were expelled from the Garden and placed under the curse of being eternally separated from God. Jesus Christ (the promised Messiah) who would restore the broken relationship with God and set us free to freely accept Jesus, the promised Messiah, God's son, the Savior and Lord of people for all times and all places.

It is very difficult to see the words displayed in the public arena. It doesn't sell and is an intrusion into the disobedient freedom we live with in this life. So we tune Jesus out of the Season, and look to Santa Claus and the reindeers, and the bag of presents to warm the hearts of the recipients, BUT this is totally void of pointing to the real meaning of Christmas, which is: God sent His Son, Jesus the promised Messiah (Christ to restore the broken relationship we have with God. For those of you who have accepted Jesus as your personal Savior and Lord, it is a lot easier for you to hold on to Jesus and refuse to be distracted and hold on to the Biblical Truth Jesus came to sacrifice himself on the Cross in order to free us from our sins, become obedient followers of Jesus, walking in his footsteps faithfully until we are called to our eternal home in heaven.

I thank God for all of you who live Christian lives and are free from sin controlling their lives and your actions and speech. May God bless you with the true meaning of Christmas and to enjoy your faith during this Christmas season.

Chaplain John Szilvasy, LTC Retired
