Jerry P. Rainey Scholarship

Chapter IX, the Isaac Camacho Chapter, of the Special Forces Association is pleased to announce the 2015 Jerry P. Rainey Scholarship

The Jerry P. Rainey Scholarship Fund focuses on assisting qualifying students who display outstanding potential in their chosen major. Academic excellence, community involvement, and personal character are the primary considerations weighted for selecting a recipient.

The fund was established in memory of Jerry P. Rainey, a former Green Beret and Medic. Mr. Rainey’s lifelong endeavor, driven by his infectious optimism, to assist those with which he came into contact inspired this fund. His belief that each individual possesses the ability to positively impact others is the basis for the intent of the fund.

The intent is twofold; assist a student in obtaining his or her educational objectives and perpetuate the spirit of selfless giving to others, a standard which Mr. Rainey so admirably inspired those around him to follow.

To Greg Brown, Scholarship Committee:

"Sir, I was surprise to have seen $500.00 check instead of $250.00. Pls sir, let me know if it is mistake so as to return the check or the change. Once again, thanks, I felt honored and motivated. God bless you, the family and the organization. Thanks, Bridget."

To Bridget(Scholarship Recipient):
"Bridget, It is not a mistake. We advertise $250, but if we have enough money we give $500. We had enough money this year to do that. You are welcome. I felt it was also my privilege to meet you and your husband. I enjoyed sitting and talking with you. Good luck with your schooling. Sincerely, Greg"

Jerry P. Rainey Scholarship Award

On Saturday 21 August 2010, SFA Chapter IX awarded two $500 Scholarships for the 3rd year in a row under the Jerry P. Rainey Scholarship.

Jerry Rainey was veteran of the Korean War and Vietnam where he served as a SF Medic on several "A" Teams. He was a past President of Chapter IX, as well as a close friend to Chapter namesake Isaac Camacho. Jerry's focus on helping others, and thinking of himself last, prompted the Chapter three years ago to develop and financial support a scholarship in his name. Read Jerry's bio here.

This year's highly deserving winners are Sonia Takacs who will graduate from Texas Tech Medical Center's Nursing Program in December with a B.S. in Nursing, and, Jenee Duran, a Senior at New Mexico State University majoring in Criminal Justice with a minor in Psychology.
