Chaplains Corner - December 2015

Paul, the Apostle, shows us the most excellent way to serve and glorify God (I Corinthians 13;1-7, 11, 13).

“If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I gain nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. If is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres…..When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me…..And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”

The next time you are tempted to become angry, try asking God to help you love yourself and others instead. You just might be surprised at the results. May God bless all your efforts with success.

Chaplain’s Corner - June 2015

Paul, the Apostle in the New Testament, writes in his first letter to the Church in Corinth (I Corinthians, Chapter 13:1 -8). He expresses his understanding of Love. It reads as follows; “If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophesy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.

Love never fails…….And now these three remain: faith, hope and love, but the greatest of these is love.” John, the Apostle, who authored the Gospel of John in the New Testament, records in Chapter 3:16 Jesus telling Nicodemus the reason God sent His Son Jesus to die for our sins, which reads as follows: For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
