Chaplains Corner - May 2015

Memorial Day

Opening Prayer

Our Father in Heaven, we are gathered today to honor our fallen military brothers and sisters who are buried here at Concordia Cemetery. They have paid the ultimate price by sacrificing their lives in military operations from the Civil War to the Gulf War to preserve our freedom.

Merciful God, we also remember those veterans who survived unscathed or were wounded, in all past wars. By remembering their sacrifices and heroism today, they are honored and not forgotten. We remember and honor the love, support, and countless hours of anguish filled prayer of family members for their loved ones serving in the Armed forces of their country. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Closing Prayer

Almighty God, as you protected our military forces in the past, continue to protect them in the present as they engage and defeat the enemy that seeks to destroy us. Then, return them safely to their families, friends and a grateful nation where their wounds of war can be healed by your healing touch, and by the love and support of family and friends.

Gracious God, help us all to use our remaining time and freedom on earth to make choices to grow in our faith, and to honor you with our thoughts, words, actions, until that day when You will call us to our eternal home. We ask this in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

Love you all,
John A. Szilvasy, Chaplain, SFA IX
