New Tombstone for Major Chester Garrett

This website previously reported on a ceremony dedicating a brand new Dining Facility at McGregor Base Camp (Fort Bliss) for Major Chester Garrett, a highly decorated Vietnam era Green Beret Officer who was unfortunately murdered in 1977.

Steve Franzoni, SFA Chapter IX Vice President, and Ray Cervantes, a former Army Military Intelligence Officer and current employee of a Federal Law Enforcement Agency, worked tirelessly to correct the headstone for Major Garrett in the Fort Bliss National Cemetery as it did not have Garrett's Awards and Decorations listed. We are honored to report that the new headstone is in place reflecting Major Garrett's hard earned awards.

For a re-cap of his awards and decorations, they include the Distinguished Service Cross, Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross, Soldiers Medal, Bronze Star 4th OLC w/V , Purple Heart 2nd OLC, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal 7th Award, Army Commendation Medal 2nd OLC w/V, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Valorous Unit Citation, RVN Gallantry Cross with Gold Star, RVN Civil Actions Unit Citation, German Army Military Efficiency Award in Silver, RVN Parachute Badge Master Level, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, Special Forces Tab, and Ranger tab.

Rest in Peace Major Garrett. You are not only not forgotten, but now your valor will be evident for all to see.
