We will present 2 x $1000 scholarships, after the August meeting. They attend NMSU and UTEP. Several motions and much discussion to increase scholarships – finally decided to decide any possible changes after this year’s awards. Jerry Rainey passed away in March 2007. We had the first scholarship in August that same year, so this will be the 8th year of the scholarship.

Chapter Uniform: Many years ago the chapter voted for a uniform that consists of Green Blazer, White dress shirt, Black pants, black shoes and socks, SF tie and appropriate beret for your qualification. A summer uniform was voted on and will be the black pants, shoes, and either a short or long sleeve white dress shirt with or with-out a tie depending on the event. The SFA logo will be over the left breast, and if you want your name on the shirt that will on you. You can order a white dress shirt online or at any meeting.

President's Message:

We will be presenting the scholarship to one individual at the August 16 meeting. The other winner is out of town and has expressed his sincere appreciation for being honored to receive the scholarship. We will get the check to him as soon as he returns. The VFW Post 812 Ladies Auxiliary will be preparing the lunch for the awards ceremony and the Fort Bliss Garrison Commander will be presenting the award. COL Munsey recently assumed responsibility of the Fort Bliss Garrison and will be a good asset for the chapter.

Based on the dress uniform vote from July, I’m requesting that the Officers wear blazer and that members wear black pants and a white dress shirt. For those who ordered the white dress shirts at the last meeting they are in. I have them at the VFW and can make arrangement to meet you up there prior to the event to get you yours. Unfortunately, Trini and I will be on vacation heading to Dallas that weekend so I will not be present.

Last is the golf tournament. Last year we made over $10k in sponsorships and this year we are at $7k. Not bad but we can do better. For everyone who secured a sponsor last year, go back to the business and secure one for this year. For those who didn’t get a sponsor last year, get-r-done this year. We need all the help we can get. Teams are or will be filled by the end of August so if you have a desire to play, please get in your registration form and payment ASAP. Teams are first come first serve.

God bless and I’ll see you soon.

De Oppresso Liber!

Pete Peral, President SFA Chapter IX
