Chapter Meeting Notes - 21 July 2012

7th Annual CSM(R) John McLaughlin Memorial Golf Tournament:  Chairman Greg Brown. We are still looking for sponsors and auction items for the golf tournament.  The next meeting will be conducted before the August SFA 9 meeting at 1200 hrs.  Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, 8 September at the Fort Bliss Underwood Golf Course. 

Chapter IX Shirts, Coins, Mugs & Blazers:  Shirts, mugs and coins are available.  Coins are $10 each.  Anyone needing a blazer needs to talk to Pete.  We are also selling golf balls for $2.00 each, hats for $10.00, cups for $7.00 and green Chapter 9 shirts for $35.00. 

Rest and Relaxation (R&R) Center Fort Bliss:  The 30 AD Soldiers still meet on Monday’s from 1100 hrs to 1600 hrs in Bldg. 48 at Fort Bliss.  Chapter donates $200 each month for arts and crafts materials. 

Jerry Rainey Scholarship:  Chairman Greg Brown.  Committee includes Leo, Steve, Roy, Tom and Sam.  The Chapter intended to make 2 x $500 awards at the August Meeting.  Chapter voted down increasing award from $500 to $1000; President Pete is donating $1,000 out of his personal funds to make it 2 scholarships at $1,000 each.  

SOF K9 Dog Memorial statue fund (Fort Bragg):  Chuck Yerry received the $1000 check from SFA 9.  They still need $20,000.  Like Chuck said, each one of the 25 dogs lost in action saved at least American soldier's life.  It is only fitting that a memorial be established for these service members who gave all.   

82nd Airborne Association Fiesta:   July 4-8 at Wyndham Airport.  A number of SFA 9 members attended and had a good time.  Some served as workers.

60th Anniversary of Special Forces – Fort Bragg, NC – June 2012.  Pete gave a recap of the recent SFA Convention and elections.  More than 20 people from El Paso attended.  Chapter IX was the highest percentage of member voting in the region.  Jack Tobin is the new President. 

SF Sign on Road:  A motion was passed to put up a sign on McKelligon Canyon road directing people to VFW 812 and the SFA Meetings. 

Troop Party’s:  Pete called for a vote to donate $1500 to the VFW for Troop Parties, Passed. 

SFA IX Christmas Party:  Pete scheduled the VFW hall for Saturday, 15 December.
