Novel by SGM (ret) Billy Bowles


SGM (ret) Billy Bowles, of SFA Chapter 43 recently completed and had published by Iuniverse Publishing Co. a novel titled "COVERT LOVES”. It is a 660 page novel, described by Bowles as a military theme coupled with a few love affairs mixed in. The novel contains some sexual episodes and typical military profanity. It is written in the style of James Jones’ “From here to Eternity.”

It tells the story of a young southern boy joining the army in 1948 and is assigned to Germany for occupation duty. He does two tours there, and then reenlists for the airborne then goes into Special Forces (the old 77th SFG).

The story takes him on Operation WHITESTAR, then into Vietnam and finally into Korea. In a disagreement with the army over new assignment orders he retires from the army at Fort Bragg.

SGM Bowles is asking for help in publicizing the book by making people aware of it. He reports that several SFA members have bought and read the book and had nothing but praise for it.
